What the SBTpedigree Admin Actually Does
Running SBTpedigree is far more than keeping a website online. Behind the scenes, the admin performs a constant amount of manual work to keep the database accurate, functional and trustworthy for breeders, owners and researchers.
Data accuracy and corrections
A major part of the daily workload is correcting and maintaining the integrity of the database. This includes fixing incorrect pedigrees, merging duplicates, adding missing information, updating health results, adjusting titles, replacing outdated photos and ensuring that newly added dogs follow the correct structure.
Manual health record verification
All L2HGA and HC DNA test results are reviewed manually before they are approved or rejected. Nothing is added automatically.
As we have recently implemented automatic Clear-by-Parents for new and updated dogs, SBTpedigree also has a control system that flags dogs registered with L2HGA or HC results without matching parental documentation. These entries are reviewed one by one to ensure that the health data is valid and traceable.
Pedigree verification
Pedigree verification requests go through a manual check to confirm that the submitted pedigrees match the registered records in SBTpedigree. Incorrect, incomplete or suspicious uploaded pedigrees will not be approved.
Systematic data clean-up
The admin works continuously on structured lists of dogs missing essential details such as:
- Gender
- Date of birth
- Country of birth
At the same time, dogs with identical or nearly identical names are identified and checked against official registries. When confirmed, additional information is added so the records become complete and unique within the database.
Development and improvement of tools
All new tools — testmatings, colour predictions, pedigree upgrades and advanced breeder features — are tested, fine-tuned and corrected manually before being released. Bugs, layout issues and edge-case errors are monitored and fixed on an ongoing basis. As it's impossible to catch everything, we encourage all users to get in touch if incorrect data or errors are found.
Technical maintenance
The admin handles server performance, cache behaviour, membership logic, payment systems, backups and error logs. This is combined with monitoring for suspicious activity, bots and invalid user inputs that could affect stability.
User support and community oversight
Questions from members, breeders and occasional visitors are handled directly. The admin helps restore accounts, guides users through tools, corrects uploaded information and ensures the platform remains fair, accurate and helpful.
Continuous improvement
The platform is never "finished". Every week involves:
- Cleaning and expanding historical pedigrees
- Correcting inconsistencies in old records
- Improving search functions
- Updating information across the database
- Enhancing the user experience based on feedback
